April 2014 Video Game Sales Results

The NPD Group has released its report for the month of April. While software sales continued to be down 10% year over year in April, hardware sales were up 76%. Overall, total industry sales increased 17% to $580.3 million. PlayStation 4 was the best selling platform for the fourth month in a row. Sales of the PS4 and Xbox One hardware have more than doubled the combined sales of PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware through their first six months. PS4 and Xbox One software sales are also up 40% compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 through their first six months. Wii U software sales were up 80% over last year.

The top selling games of April were as follows:

4. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
5. LEGO The Hobbit
6. The LEGO Movie Videogame
7. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
8. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
9. Grand Theft Auto V
10. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
